The medieval marketplace of Alturien is awash in intrigue and action. As many as 6 different families compete in a merciless trade battle. All seek wealth, influence, and power.
In "Alturien," your merchants vie for the attention of 7 unique trade customers of varying wealth. They stroll the market, while you entice them to ignore your rivals and buy your wares. Using your income, you build new trading halls and create your own mercantile empire.
But beware! One customer is "Gustavo the Weasel"! He steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Watch out if you're prosperous, for Gustav is a wily crook! If you're the first merchant to acquire sufficient wealth and 3 prestigious prizes, you rise to a noble rank and win the game.
"The Market of Alturien" is the first in a trilogy of stand-alone games set in Wolfgang Kramer's storied work of Alturien.

This is an update of a late 80's game called City from the same designer. Each player has a trade house and the object is to get the customers to your trade house so you can make money. The game is simple to understand and is a light family game that does have a few decisions to make each turn, and although the game is good to look at, is perhaps dated a little even with its new look.
That said, though, their is still much to enjoy here and as long as you do not mind a crtain amount of luck in a game, it can be quite fun to play. |
